Green IT in companies

Sustainable IT is a complex topic. It encompasses the development, use and disposal of hardware and software from an environmental perspective.

According to a recent study by the Capgemini Research Institute , only six percent of companies worldwide have so far comprehensively addressed sustainable IT. In addition, the_{CO2 emissions} of IT infrastructure are often underestimated.

Nevertheless, more and more companies are now aware that Green IT should be animportant part of the business strategy. This is not just about emissions; rising energy costs, increased electrical waste and the reduction in raw materials required are also increasingly coming into focus.

Interest in environmentally friendly IT products, a needs-based infrastructure and recyclability is constantly increasing. After all, sustainable IT also pays offeconomically and, if implemented consistently, increases customer satisfaction.

Although there are clear signs of an upward trend here, there is still a lot of catching up to do - especially as sustainability as a holistic, company-wide concept refersnot only to ecological but also to social and economic aspects .
