Project environment
For several years now, IT-HAUS and m&r Kreativ GmbH, a Newkom Group company, have been working together to offer digital communication solutions to customers from a wide range of industries - from retail to system catering. Together, the IT system house and the software provider with an associated advertising agency have unique expertise in the world of digital signage. The expertise of IT-HAUS GmbH in logistics, hardware from all well-known manufacturers and special solutions such as mounts, enclosures, painting, foiling and burglary protection is complemented by the software, infrastructural and architectural expertise of the Saarbrücken-based company. Together, the business partners are therefore able to realize holistic digital signage concepts from a single source as a true full-service provider: While IT-HAUS is responsible for supplying suitable screens, among other things, m&r Kreativ takes care of solutions for the creation and editing of suitable content.
The customer, a manufacturer and bottler of fruit juices and soft drinks for private labels and branded companies, first became involved with digital signage when the number of employees in the group almost doubled following the acquisition of another company. The client was now faced with the challenge of informing its employees both in the existing branches and at the five new production sites in Germany and supporting them in the onboarding process. Always open to innovation and continuous improvement in line with the company's philosophy, the company wanted to use digital notice boards in future instead of traditional notice boards and turned to the specialists at IT-HAUS GmbH .
During the initial meeting, the customer expressed the desire for a solution that was as simple as possible - ideally in the form of an integrated system that he wanted to operate and manage himself: from content creation to playout on various screens and monitoring. The offers from various display manufacturers were then weighed up against each other, with LG Electronics coming out on top with its excellent price-performance ratio and webOS, the particularly user-friendly operating system that is integrated as standard.
Project success
The customer now uses a total of 15 landscape-format screens, distributed across the various German sites, to inform its employees in corridors, break rooms or in the canteen. These are networked and receive their content via centrally controlled management software. This is a browser-based application that can be operated quickly and easily via drag and drop. This means that the customer does not have to install anything, can log in from anywhere in the world, plan campaigns with just a few clicks and roll them out nationwide within minutes - without any specialist knowledge or additional resources.
As a free bonus, m&r Kreativ provided the client with a detailed demonstration of the solution as well as so-called templating. This involved preparing the content of one of the client's PowerPoint presentations for digital signage and using it to create various templates that made it easier for the client to get started with content management. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that the content was CI-compliant and pleasantly designed, generating attention without overwhelming the viewer. As part of the initial system setup, user roles and rights were also assigned and the responsible employees were familiarized with the software within a very short time.
The rollout of the screens was similarly straightforward. These were delivered to the client's various locations by IT-HAUS and installed independently by the building services department. As soon as all the devices were registered in the system, which m&r Kreativ did in consultation with the client, the group's marketing department was able to take over and publish the desired content immediately.
Today, the customer creates, plans and monitors its content and playlists completely independently and plays them out centrally to all locations - including company news and other company-relevant information. This is done with the help of an app loaded into webOS and hosted by m&r Kreativ, which automatically checks the servers there for new content and transmits it to the respective screens via the Internet when approved. For this purpose, the service provider provides a powerful, high-performance and fail-safe IT infrastructure around the clock.
The software enables customers to plan content well in advance, for example for specific events, seasons, holidays or promotions, as well as on a recurring basis and - in contrast to paper posters - to update it in real time across the board. In addition to JPEG, PDF, PNG and MPEG-4 files, HTML-based files are also supported so that external websites can also be integrated if required.
In addition, the user-friendly tool makes monitoring and managing the hardware child's play for the customer. As soon as a screen is offline or there is a fault, this is highlighted in color in the system. However, the devices are designed for 24/7 operation and are therefore hardly susceptible to faults. In the event of a warranty claim, the customer can contact either the manufacturer or IT-HAUS ; in addition, the m&r Kreativ helpdesk is always available to answer questions.
