Added value for the customer
Management Summary
The commercial vehicle supplier JOST wanted to standardize its IT workplace worldwide in order to be able to plan and manage its entire IT landscape centrally from Germany. Thanks to a global partner network, over 2,000 workstations on five continents are now equipped with defined HP Inc. clients and accessories. With IT-HAUS as a certified service partner, the Group benefits from leaner, transparent processes, optimized lifecycle management and the best conditions from HP Inc. by bundling its purchasing volume at a global level.
"Thanks to the new procurement concept of global IT standards, we were able to drastically reduce both hardware and process costs in connection with IT hardware procurement. All devices are grouped together in a global shopping cart with standardized procurement processes. This ensures we have the latest technology standards and simplifies the management of our IT environment."
Project environment
JOST Werke AG employs more than 3,500 people at over 30 production and sales locations on all continents. These employees use over 2,000 IT workstations, of which around a third are located in Germany, in other European countries and outside Europe. As the procurement of IT hardware had previously been organized independently by each national company, the picture here was very heterogeneous - both in terms of manufacturers and suppliers, as well as in terms of the age of the devices. Due to the difficulties associated with the heterogeneous IT environment, the decision was made to reorganize the entire IT sourcing. The Group's management wanted a uniform global IT landscape so that it could be managed centrally from Germany without any problems. Lifecycle management in particular was to be simplified and optimized as a result, as was the switch to leasing with fixed terms. As a long-standing, globally oriented business partner of JOST with experience in the international market, IT-HAUS GmbH was consulted to discuss possible scenarios.
Project success
The first task was to define a standard workplace with accessories for five different user groups. For this, IT-HAUS chose the manufacturer HP Inc., with whom it also has a long-term, trusting partnership. With a large portfolio of printers, PCs, mobile devices, monitors and services, HP covers almost every application in the Modern and Secure Workplace. Devices from the HP EliteBook and HP EliteDesk series were selected for office users. When it comes to CPUs, JOST has opted for AMD Ryzen™ processors and thus benefits from plenty of performance at comparatively low prices. With the HP ZBook as a mobile workstation and the HP Z2 Tower Workstation, even demanding tasks such as CAD applications can be handled effortlessly. After IT-HAUS had negotiated the conditions with the manufacturer, the Föhren-based company concluded a global framework agreement with JOST, which each individual national company can access at equally favorable conditions. By bundling volumes, IT-HAUS also enabled the customer to obtain considerable volume discounts from the manufacturer. The shopping cart is provided by IT-HAUS via a web-based platform that can only be accessed by users selected by the customer from each country where JOST is located. The web store is linked to an authorized partner network, which processes orders outside Europe via local resellers in the individual countries. This means that the local resellers handle both delivery to the relevant national company and invoicing. In this way, all of JOST Werke AG's IT workstations worldwide are replaced with new hardware on a rolling basis. In addition, IT-HAUS stocks a certain number of end devices so that the customer remains as independent as possible from supply bottlenecks. The devices are financed via a leasing concept with monthly billing, whereby IT-HAUS takes over the entire process with the lessor. This protects the cash flow and enables the customer to plan better as part of lifecycle management. While uniform hardware standards and uniform procurement processes minimize process and administrative costs worldwide, transparent procurement volumes serve as a basis for the commercial vehicle supplier to manage its investments in various product areas in a more targeted manner. The headquarters is informed about the inventory and status of its hardware at all times, enabling it to act more quickly if necessary and adapt the standards flexibly if required. As a single point of contact, IT-HAUS continues to advise and support the customer, for example with generational changes to client hardware. Based on the positive experience with this approach for the IT workplace, JOST has decided to take a similar approach together with IT-HAUS in the areas of printing and IT infrastructure.
