Infrastructure as a Service
Ideal cloud entry for SMEs with IONOS and IT-HAUS
Infrastructure services from the cloud offer clear flexibility and cost benefits, especially for small to medium-sized companies. Not only can intensive workloads be easily relocated and managed with a small number of specialist staff, but the service is also billed according to demand and can be planned. A medium-sized company from the greater Trier-Luxembourg area can serve as a current example: The almost 50 employees from administration, trade, sales and field service of a building services company have moved their entire infrastructure to the cloud since the start of 2020. A field report.
Advantages and benefits
Management Summary
Due to the continuous growth of the specialist company for installation, maintenance and repair, the need to restructure the IT landscape grew. After in-depth consultation with IT-HAUS as a long-standing system house partner and the simulation of various server and cost comparisons, the decision was made in favor of an innovative Infrastructure-as-a-Service solution from IONOS. The IONOS cloud stands out due to its unlimited scalability and data protection-compliant platform solution and is ideal for small to medium-sized companies. By replacing the expensive on-premise structure of multiple servers and storage, the IT-HAUS Cloud by IONOS supports the transition to a renowned medium-sized company.
Starting position
Over the past few years, the former craft business has grown into a medium-sized specialist company for the installation, servicing and maintenance of air conditioning, heating and drinking water systems. To accommodate this growth, the company decided a few years ago to acquire a new building and take advantage of the increased office and administration space. In addition, the merchandise management system was replaced and all business areas, including sales and technology, were integrated into the new system. In the course of these growth processes, it was realized that the server structure of the medium-sized building technology company, which had been in use for more than six years, was outdated and no longer suitable for the new workloads. Together with the system house partner IT-HAUS , they evaluated possible scenarios for an adequate infrastructure environment.
The prerequisite for the new infrastructure solution was the improvement and continuous scaling of the IT infrastructure, including the newly introduced ERP system. In addition, the space available in the new office building should be available for employees, as only a small amount of space should be used for server rooms. Modern applications such as collaboration software and mobile working are to be made possible by a new infrastructure. Data protection and data security against unauthorized access must be guaranteed at all times. Cost aspects such as transparency and hardware costs in relation to performance also played an important role. In view of the company's continuous growth, the aim is to ensure that future capacity and performance requirements are covered.
Solution
Thanks to years of trusting collaboration and a high level of expertise in the infrastructure sector, the customer turned to IT-HAUS to consider whether a hardware refresh would be sufficient or whether a completely new infrastructure should be created. Together with the customer, various solution approaches were evaluated in order to meet the requirements of the Scope project and to agree an innovative solution for the customer, which employs only a small number of IT specialists. A "future-proof" infrastructure was developed, taking into account the business requirements. The parties involved quickly agreed that a secure IaaS solution such as the IT-HAUS Cloud powered by IONOS was an ideal IT environment for the medium-sized company. Instead of operating several servers on site as before, the required computing capacity can be obtained flexibly from the cloud as required and high investments in hardware can be avoided. As a European cloud alternative, IONOS stands for highly efficient and data protection-compliant cloud services at an attractive price-performance ratio.
The IT infrastructure can be controlled via a central interface and is future-proof thanks to its infinite scalability. The data is hosted in the ISO 27001-certified data center in Frankfurt and backed up with double redundancy. In addition, IT-HAUS developed a migration concept with minimal downtime to replace the outdated server structure. For the continued support of the new environment, IT-HAUS drew up a service level agreement for proactive monitoring, capacity monitoring, security criteria, patch management and operational support for the IT-HAUS Cloud powered by IONOS. Other benefits such as no minimum contract term, the low entry hurdle and numerous technical features convinced the customer. After a one-off configuration, the customer's cloud migration was completed within a few weeks. The specialist departments of the innovative company can now react even more flexibly and better to daily business requirements and, thanks to the service level agreement with IT-HAUS , have a certified and experienced partner to provide operational support for the IONOS Cloud.
