The electronic patient file (ePA)
Diagnoses, diagnostic data, treatment histories, referral papers, living wills or documents relating to billing: In most hospitals, all these documents are only available in paper form. Digitizing these documents has several advantages.
This means that all patient-relevant information is not only available across all wards. The individual courses of treatment are also traceable and duplicate diagnostics are avoided.
But how do all these paper documents get into the electronic patient file? The patient is assigned a barcode on admission. This is then scanned into a Kyocera multifunctional system at the same time as the corresponding treatment or billing documents.
The image and text data is then captured using a scan-and-capture solution and processed together with the information on the ID card or stored in the patient's personal ePA file. The scanned documents are then available across all wards in the hospital information system.
