End of support for Windows Server 2012
Extended support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 ends on October 10, 2023
There are currently around 60,000 Windows Server 2008 versions still in use in Germany alone, although support ended three years ago. And on October 10, 2023, extended support for version 2012 will be discontinued.
From this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates for these systems, exposing companies with outdated systems to an enormous security risk, as newly discovered security vulnerabilities will no longer be closed. Attackers could use these vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access to servers and data, putting the entire IT infrastructure at risk. Companies should therefore urgently switch to more up-to-date and supported server versions to ensure the security of their systems. This also means that they can no longer meet the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as the security of personal data is then no longer guaranteed. To protect yourself against risks and potential attacks due to a lack of security updates, we recommend that you plan the migration of your Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 now.
