Management Summary

As part of its growth strategy, WAGO GmbH & Co. KG has set itself the task of optimizing its processes, relieving the burden on internal IT and avoiding downtime or providing replacement devices quickly and unbureaucratically. With the support of IT-HAUS GmbH, the Lenovo Smart Locker was introduced, a user-friendly locker management system that provides a drop-off and pick-up service for the required IT.

Employees can collect the devices from the locker within 24/7 and complete their tasks just in time. This minimizes downtime and relieves the burden on internal IT.

Project environment

Flexible, smooth and, above all, fast internal processes are a decisive competitive advantage for WAGO GmbH & Co. KG a decisive competitive advantage. Even during night or weekend shifts, it must be ensured that shift workers can hand over defective devices to IT or have access to loaner devices - even when on-site IT is not staffed. WAGO was looking for an efficient and user-friendly technical solution to ensure continuous IT support and supply for the employees and at the same time relieve the IT staff. Ideally, this should be able to be integrated into the existing IT service infrastructure. For this challenge, WAGO relied on its long-standing partnership with Lenovo and IT-HAUS GmbH .

Project success

IT-HAUS found a suitable cooperation partner for the project in the manufacturer Lenovo. WAGO GmbH & Co. KG has already been successfully using this manufacturer's products in the company for several years. Lenovo was open to taking a joint step with IT-HAUS and WAGO. The Lenovo Smart Locker was placed on the German market for the first time. The intelligent locker system, consisting of a modern computer with a high-resolution touchscreen, a scanner and a total of 9 compartments of different sizes, provides the decisive solution here. In Minden and Sondershausen, the Smart Locker now provides all employees with hardware, accessories and replacement devices around the clock for employees who want to hand in a defective device for repair.

If an employee experiences a hardware failure, they report this to the internal IT department.
They then receive a ready-to-use replacement device from one of the Smart Locker's compartments via a barcode and hand the defective device directly into another compartment or into the same compartment for repair.

The special feature: In cooperation with Lenovo, the Smart Locker could be connected directly to the Active Directory and also integrated into WAGO's existing ticket system. Receipt and issue can thus be tracked directly, and collection and repair can be initiated by a service technician who no longer needs to be permanently on site. This minimizes waiting times and ensures that the technology of all employees is always ready for use. Spontaneous needs are therefore no longer a challenge, and the two locations will be supplied around the clock in future. The individualization is completed by coloring the Smart Locker in the characteristic "WAGO green". In addition, the Smart Locker will continue to be supported by the IT-HAUS and Lenovo experts, who can be contacted at any time with questions or problems.
