Added value for the customer
Management Summary
In the face of increasing competition from online stores, it is becoming more and more important for retailers to focus on the added value of shopping locally. In order to increase the level of service for its customers, Leyendecker Holzland has been focusing on digitalization at the point of sale (PoS) for years. With the support of IT-HAUS GmbH , the specialist wood retailer from Trier has implemented a centrally controlled, holistic digital signage concept, taking it one step closer to Retail 4.0.
"By introducing a digital signage solution, we can edit content easily, quickly and centrally and broadcast it individually on the existing displays. We are creating completely new shopping experiences and infotainment for our customers."
Starting position
Innovation meets tradition - this principle has successfully guided the Trier-based family business Leyendecker HolzLand since 1860. A future-oriented exhibition concept gets to the heart of sophisticated living on 5,000 square meters of presentation space. Shopping becomes a journey of discovery, where individual design possibilities arise as if by magic. Customers can be inspired in the exhibition and find the perfect solution for them together with the competent specialist consultants from Leyendecker HolzLand. The company has already been using product-accompanying screen technologies for years to provide its customers with product information. For example, small tablets were installed in wooden walls and doors, which had to be manually loaded with content. Content maintenance was correspondingly time-consuming, which meant that content was essentially limited to static product texts or promotional videos from the respective manufacturers. As more and more devices failed over time, Leyendecker HolzLand joined forces with IT-HAUS GmbH to look for a new solution.
Requirements and goals
In a joint workshop with IT-HAUS , the customer's needs and requirements for a new digital signage solution were developed in order to offer added value to end customers and sales staff in the future, such as:
- Use of digital touch displays for innovative use
- Introduction of a content management system and implementation in the in-house data center
- Reduction of administration and time expenditure
- Central control of all screens to be used
- Targeted broadcasting and control of content within the Leyendecker theme worlds
- Possible interfaces and connections to company-relevant databases, such as the merchandise management system - Connection to the Leyendecker ERP system the merchandise management system
- Connection of existing monitors in the entrance area, meeting rooms or children's play corner to the future solution
- Compliance with relevant fire protection regulations
Solution
In order to avoid having to completely rewire and technically upgrade existing display spaces as part of a realignment, the 11.6-inch monitors were selected, which have a "Power-Over-Ethernet function". PoE-supported displays offer a minimalist connection format with just one cable for the power supply and the simultaneous network connection, which represents a major advantage over conventional displays. Another focus was on the already integrated media player in order to save on additional hardware. Depending on the intended use, the workstations will be equipped with touchscreens in future so that customers can find out about the product(s) themselves via a menu selection in the first step or the specialist staff are able to call up information directly and provide content for customers. Custom-made installation trays for the display units were made for the planned wooden installation walls to provide additional protection for the displays.
Central content management: In future, mdt Medientechnik will use "Screen Editor" as the central content management platform. The platform impressed with its high stability and flexibility, such as automatic import and conversion options for a wide range of file formats. Furthermore, the manufacturer-independent solution offers cross-operating system communication such as Windows, Android, Linux, etc. Whether as a cloud solution or, as with Leyendecker, in its own data center: the "Screen Editor" provides users with easy-to-use and rights-based software whose content and screens can be accessed directly in the browser. Users can compile their own playlists (advertising or information spots) with a wide variety of media content and make them available on individual or group screens with pinpoint accuracy using date and time control. The software also includes an automated warning system that sends a direct message to the administrator in the event of a fault - who in turn can access the relevant player remotely and rectify the fault.
Integration of existing devices: The integration of existing monitors was solved by adding WLAN-connected media players in order to connect them to the new content management system and to be able to use them better within the new solution in the future.
Benefit
In addition to comprehensive digital signage consulting services, as a full-service integrator, IT-HAUS GmbH offers customers a customized "all-round carefree package" consisting of hardware, CMS software, content and service. With IT-HAUS as a strong partner at its side, Leyendecker HolzLand is already planning further signage projects such as large-format displays that can be operated via mini-screen, mobile pads as added value for customer advice and the assignment of user rights in the CMS so that representatives from different teams can enter individual content. In this way, Leyendecker Holzland is enhancing the shopping experience with a digital component and consolidating its reputation as an innovative company in the region.
