Starting position

The high creativity and quality of the glass and façade constructions created at Roschmann are reflected in numerous awards for outstanding architectural results. Due to the continuous growth, the IT department initiated a relaunch of the outdated network environment back in 2018. The demands on the infrastructure were constantly increasing. In phases of high capacity utilization and computing-intensive construction phases, the network was occasionally overloaded. In addition, Roschmann employees indicated that not all areas of the buildings were seamlessly equipped with good network reception. With the construction of a new office and production building, a uniform, easy-to-administer network concept was to be developed, adapted to the individual circumstances of the branches. Reliable network coverage as well as WiFi cameras were included in the project specifications, which were to be used not only at national level but also at the subsidiaries and branches in France and the USA. In addition to handling the distributed locations and easy, centralized management, a high level of security is a basic requirement for the new network landscape. An adequate network, security and monitoring system should also enable automatic updates, proactive monitoring and simple patch management and software updates. The aim of the project was to create a network with a single point of management. In addition, the new monitoring system should also improve burglary protection in the ultra-modern production buildings with machines and systems. The establishment of a secure guest WLAN was also part of the scope of the project. In view of the company's continuous growth, the aim is to ensure that future capacity and performance requirements are covered for at least seven years.

Solution

Thanks to the many years of trustful cooperation with IT-HAUS GmbH , the high level of expertise in the network sector with Cisco and the high partner status, it quickly became clear to the innovative company that IT-HAUS was the ideal partner for the implementation of the new network landscape. The high level of service competence convinced the customer. An analysis of the current infrastructure and a plan for consolidating and improving the network landscape were carried out by IT-HAUS . The requirements profile, which included easy handling across the international locations, was translated into features and an ideal solution was formulated. The aim was to use the new network solution to network the office and production even more flexibly and better for daily requirements in future. The foundation stone was laid back in 2019 when the concept for the WLAN and LAN was developed - always with the company's international focus in mind. In the following year, certified IT-HAUS technicians illuminated the production hall and the newly built office building with special software and defined strategically favorable positions for the new switches and access points. This ensures that no areas are cut off from the network connection and that only the quantity of devices actually required is ordered. Surveillance technology was also professionalized with integrated camera technology from Cisco Meraki, which was also adapted to the customer's individual local conditions. The outdated firewall appliances were replaced with Cisco Meraki firewall appliances (as an external firewall and intelligent site-to-site VPN). Thanks to the intuitive data center security concept with zero-touch provisioning, the boxes could be put into operation at the international branches without extensive pre-configuration. The project was completed within a few weeks. The IT department now has a holistic solution for the network systems, monitoring systems and security systems at a glance. In the event of an attack on the physical or virtual infrastructure, automated immediate measures can be initiated. Together with the IT managers, IT-HAUS is working on the continuous improvement and successive expansion of all Roschmann branches.
